EXCELLENT - EASY TO PREPARE MEALS
We have used several recipes in this book and find them extremely good and easy to make. Ingredients are very basic. My husband has a history of high triglyceride for which he is currently taking medication for. As a former cancer patient - have lowered the above as well as cholesterol levels. His physician is quite impressed. This is the only recipe book we use. We would highly recommend this book for anyone watching fat intake. I guarantee that you will be quite surprised in how satisfying the food is and you won't have that "hungry" feeling which leads to the dreaded snacks!

Extremely useful!
I loved the book because it uses recipes with all basic foods. There are no special ingredients to find and purchase. This book is a great way to introduce healthy, low-fat cooking into the average home.

The Guardianship Book for California: How to Become a Child's Guardian (Guardianship Book. California Edition, 3rd Ed)

A must if you want to avoid a money sucking lawyer
I recently became a guardian of my young nephew but could not afford and didn't want to deal with a lawyer. This book made it possible. It layed out the steps in a well structured manner. I was very satisfied with my purchase. The forms it included with the book were just great. Buy it.

Excellent resource, whether or not you will use an attorney!
As an attorney who regularly represents clients in guardianship proceedings, I strongly recommend that my clients read The Guardianship Book so that they understand the sometimes confusing process. In some cases, I hand the book to my clients during our first meeting, as "homework" to read before I will prepare and file a petition. For those who cannot afford an attorney, I recommend this as a resource that will save considerable time and avoid court hearing delays. For clients who can afford to pay my fees, the book still saves my time explaining many issues -- the $25 book can easily save $250 in attorney fees. (Mark J. Welch, Pleasanton, CA)

Healthy Foods, Healthy Kids: A Complete Guide to Nutrition for Children from Birth to Six-Year-Olds
Published in Paperback by Adams Media Corporation (February, 2002)
Author: Elizabeth M. Ward
Average review score:

Super Resource for Parents of Young Children
As the mother of three young children - one picky eater, one who can't get enough and one junk-food junky - I was thrilled to find a book written by a nutrition professional that can relate to the challenges of feeding kids. In this easy to read book, nutritionist Elizabeth Ward provides common sense advice on how to feed kids healthy foods based on both sound nutrition science and her experiece feeding her own children. Starting with "preparing for pregnancy," Ward covers topics that all parents want to know about -- breastfeeding, introducing solid foods, helping your child establish eating habits that will ward off chronic disease later in life, "super foods" for kids, food safety and more. I think what I like most is that all the information is presented in a really common sense, guilt-free way, and includes a lot of first hand experiences from mom's also trying to raise healthy kids in a "junk food" world. And the recipes are great -- easy to make and kid-friendly. In my opinion, any book that can help me feed my kids healthfully without adding to the stress of child rearing is easily worth five stars !

Practical and smart
Many children's nutrition books offer unrealistic advice. This book, written by a dietitian and parent, is very practical and realistic, and helps parents figure out how to feed their children healthy food without making the dinner table a battle ground. I found the suggestions very helpful, and I plan to make this book my standard baby shower gift for new mothers.

I Promise Myself: Making a Commitment to Yourself and Your Dreams
Published in Paperback by Conari Pr (May, 2000)
Authors: Patricia Lynn Reilly, Patricia Lynn Reilly, and Sabrina Ward Harrison
Average review score:

This book is essential for teenage girls!
I met at Patricia Reilly, the author of "I Promise Myself," at a recent booksigning in Salt Lake City. "I Promise Myself" is an amazing book and I made all of my high school friends read it. They all agreed that we girls need to affirm, appreciate, and love ourselves before anyone else. This in itself is a wonderful idea. But in a society such as ours, where we are told that pleasing others is our first priority, where we are taught that beauty is more important than comfort and love, and where we are ashamed of our sexuality and womanhood, this notion of self-affirmation isn't just wonderful...it's painfully needed. Patricia and her book are a wonderful example to me and to every one else.

PLR Reminds us of the Core of Self, Strength, and Focus
I Promise Myself is a book to sit with and thumb through and read ten thousand times or more. Reilly shows us, through a vow composition process, how to truly know ourselves and find the inner strength needed to live in this hectic and often externally-focused world. The book is especially helpful to women who, as PLR describes it, tend to get caught up in the 'swirls' of others... ever the caretaker, ever the giver, ever the one who depends on others for strength. It has helped me through times of crisis by allowing me to define the natural center of my self to which I can always return.

Improving Corporate Boards : The Boardroom Insider Guidebook (paper with CD-ROM)
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (21 April, 2000)
Author: Ralph D. Ward

Improving Corporate Boards
This new book is a home run for shareholders desiring greater accountability from the boards of directors they have hired as caretakers of their funds; and gives directors a handy reference book chock full of practical tools that practically every company will find useful.

After investing in public and private companies for over 30 years, serving on numerous public and private company boards, reading dozens of books and hundreds of articles on improving company boards and better corporate governance - this is the best I have come across. Companies should provide a copy of this book for each of their directors as a matter of policy, and investors should read it to discover valuable new insights into the crucial but often forgotten links between director quality, accountability, conflicts of interest and stock price performance.

Finally a Clear Guide for Boards
One of the most frequent requests from readers of CorpGov.Net is for a book on how to improve their board. Finally I can recommend a book that doesn't read like a dry academic text and is built on real life examples. Finally, a clear guide to solving the most common problems facing boards. Each chapter provides a concise overview of a problem or focus area, several real life examples, internet resources, advice from various experts and a checklist summary. CalPERS should be sending Mr. Ward's book to each board member of the companies on its focus list.

In My Garden: A Counting Book

More books, please , Ward
Finally, I'm also looking forward to storytime. My 2 year old loves this book and so do I. The right combination of beautiful illustartions (you should have posters too) with a sense of humor, with counting. She points at the grapes, peas with glasses and recognizes "grandpa." We'll be waiting for your next book!

A book you can count on to make you giggle
You can't help but smile at the fanciful, capricious illustrations in this delightful counting book. The watering can is grinning the flowers are dancing the shade trees are wearing sunglasses and you definitely don't want to mess with those crabby apples. As soon as I read this book at the library, I immediately took it home to my daughter for a happy evening of counting and reading.

Instant File-Folder Games for Reading

Authors: Marilyn Myers Burch and Linda Ward Beech
Average review score:

Excellent for reading centers
I can't wait to use these wonderful games in my first grade classroom. There are so many great ideas that will work well during center time. Very good choice for those of us who can't afford to go out and buy lots of expensive games for our classroom.

Great Book for Everday Classroom use!
I ordered this book to be delivered as soon as it was available - it was worth the wait. It's great for busy classroom teachers who don't have time to sit and make games but still need them for effective classroom management for centers or independent practice. I highly recommend this book to classroom teachers or reading specialists.

Jade
Published in Paperback by Gem Books Publishing (October, 2001)
Author: Fred Ward
Average review score:

Informative and nice pictures
There are not too many books on Jade, so I'm glad I found this one. It was pretty informative and had very nice photographs illustrating the author's points. It's worth it if you're in the jewelry business and want to know more about jade, and it's good for any jade collector. I found the information to be accurate.

Buy this book!!!
Like all of the Fred Ward Gem Books Series, this is an instant classic. It features National Geographic quality photos, no surprise since Ward has photographed/authored a number of articles for that magazine. My favorite section deals with the jade from Meso-America, used by the Olmec, Mayan and Aztec civilizations. But it also contains much on Burmese and Chinese jade. This is simply an outstanding book. Buy it.
